Hi everyone Shaqir Hussyin here and today i just came back from a business show, so these are the shows that we do a couple times a year, essentially they're in london in a place called excell 25000 attendees come by and i learn some valuable valuable lessons when it comes to running trade shows, doing ads, uh, putting on speakers, getting sales and i ‘ll tell you right now the first day was an absolute nightmare.
I mean even with all the preparation the amount of money that we spend probably close to 30 g’s, 30,000 pounds, is just about 35,000 US. and even still then, things don't go right because as soon as we walked in we realized that our trade show, our booth that we had paid for plus i hired about 8 people to come and work the two days, it was right next to another internet marketer, a digital company that , you know the guy is my friend and what not but we said pretty much the exact same thing and it was just an absolute, excuse my language but a complete crap because you know one of my customers will go to him or his customers were coming to us and it was such a huge huge mess and you know we are wanting to get to 100 customers for the day, we ended up with 20…under 25 and it was just really really frustrating to experience this and if you’ve been doing marketing for any given time, you know the aim of the game is buying customers.
Okay we want to always be able to outspend our competitors by having the most develop sales funnel, by having a marketing message, a brand that transplants, and so that we can buy customers because at the end of the day, the only people that win in business are the people that can buy customers, okay?
Thats a “writer donwner” , if you’re not buying customers every single day, you’re not even in the game so don't worry about doing free traffic stuff to build your business, what you need to be focused on is how you can buy customers. Where are you going to buy customers from.
Trade Show Marketing Strategy Failure
Anyways, so, long story short, i had and executive meeting with the directors plus the sales guys, everyone that sold me into it and they came up with a solution which i’m still kinda negotiating with them i don't think its the best thing that they could offer me, they have offered me, so that's that part, regarding the trade show.
One of the biggest mistakes I did make was i had sponsored this cafe area, that was my mistake because I didn't understand exactly what i was being sold, but i spent about 7 thousand 2 hundred pounds so that's 10,000 US Dollars toward this and it was an absolute waste of money, i mean i'm talking we probably didn’t even get 5 customers from that and what it was is just an area that had our branding on the floor, our branding falling from the sky, falling from the ceiling, but you know, at the end of the day i’m direct response marketer.
Every dollar i spend i want to see it, ROI. I want to measure my results. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case so that was a huge punch in the gut because i’ve been doing this stuff for 5 years…4-5 years, doing trade shows…i should have anticipated, planned, prepared for it.
To kind of make that a little bit worse, we had four volunteers that were paid, that were hired from an agency, which obviously i’m never going to use them again and this agency, i mean they gave me four staff members, 2 of them looked like they were sleeping, they had creased shirts, i mean they weren't doing anything but representing wealth academy dot com. And they….i gave them lots of training in the beginning, i had my staff train them, they just wasn't on the ball…out of four of them only one kind of was somewhat decent and im…might consider him for another role…we’ll see. But the other three was an absolute waste of money.
Trade Show Booth Ideas Attracting Visitors
Luckily though i had 2-3 clients which were just absolute amazing clients of mine, my mastermind clients, my pink diamond clients that happened to be in london and that happened to just so love helping me and my team and so they popped along and they handed out leaflets and collected orders and talked to people and overcame objections which kind of made the deal worth it but one of the biggest lessons i learned was next time instead of hiring these off the shelf somewhat a volunteer…not volunteer, agency people that come in and just hand out leaflets and stuff, i'm just going to use internal teams which is my clients or someone from my own office to come and do this.
At the end of the day i think we did get about 40-50 sales-ish. And because i know what my backend numbers are, each person is worth at least …on the lifetime value scale anyway… at least minimum of 2-3k you know, its cool.
40 people at 2-3k…you know i could 2X 3X my ROI from the trade show in less than 2 weeks, i am booking myself in again in May to do it. Whatever country you’re living in right now, wherever you’re listening to this right now.
Trade Show Leads
This is one of the best traffic sources that I use. It’s such an untapped gold mine. I would strongly recommend you seek out coming to trade shows, the business shows, the exhibition shows thats happening in your local city, town, country, whatever and go and inquire, learn more about them.
Before you jump in though and sign the contract, go and see what the competition is offering, go and see what other companies are doing, i see people every single year that…you should see last year, they don't exist.
And there's probably about less than 5 of us that show up every single year and every single year we expand our footfall within the trade shows. Another observation i had was, there was a lot of people that had never done this so there was a lot of newbies that were coming in and i could just tell from the get go, these guys are going to be losing money.
Just because their numbers don’t match up, they're not doing something to catch their leads, if you’re not doing something to stand out and brand out from the crowd, there's 350 exhibitors, there's…that's a lot of people, you know what i mean?
And so people are dropping from show to show and so you need to have an aggressive internet sales funnel where you have high touch, where you’re collecting credit cards, details of people to offer them products and services, like you’re getting the sale… you’re asking for the sale. It is a lot of hard work, however the rules can be very very worth it so, whatever country you’re in, be sure to check out the trade shows.
