Quick Marketing Missteps
They are looking for the short term tactic, or the loophole or something that's immediate and instant. When you think like this, what happens is, your mind is always focused on the instant gratification thing right, and instead of thinking to yourself long term.
What do i have to do today so that in 3 months, 6 months, 12 months down the line, my clients will come and buy from me. I’ll have better position in the marketplace i’ll have much more authority, i’ll be connecting with the industry game changers, the people right at the top of the field, they’ll be coming on to work with me, what can i do right now.
Like i’ll give you an example: when i first started in online marketing i would always look for the thing that’s going to get me the easiest fastest result and that was like posting on social media.
Like facebook, and twitter okay?
At the time twitter was huge and you know, the people that i was following, obviously the wrong people were saying set up all these social media accounts and post as many times as you can. You’re going to be able to see these people like and comment and then they're going to potentially buy from you, which, really didn't happen.
I wasted about 6 or 7 months of my life posting, waking up every day, wasting endless amounts of times posting on social media websites.
Then i came across a guy called Jay Abraham and he taught me the concept of preeminence that you build authority by giving value. Also by thinking long term and by becoming a strategic solution provider rather than someone that’s trying to get money right now, right away.
How To Change Your Mindset For Success
I developed that mindset and I can remember struggling for like 9 months of my life and then making over 6 figures, $120,000…..excuse me, that was my laptop…alright.
Then what happened was, the next year i did over $120,000 in sales and within 3 years i made my first million dollars. Okay?
I love this company they’ve done over $1Billion in sales providing business education, training and courses. If I didn’t spend many years of my life building up my credit, building my authority, my brand then i wouldn't be able to have and attract people like him.
To come onto my show to come on to my podcast and it just made me realize, i see so many people, i don't really use social media much, but when i do get on and i see people always posting stuff versus really focusing on a solution to help people and to be long term, i can immediately say hey that's a big mistake that they're making.
So if you’re making that mistake, id remind you, just a friendly reminder to take a little step back, and ask yourself, hey, what can i do to take a step back and work on the business rather than in it. Instead of looking for the short term tactic…which is…you know…what's the facebook traffic, what's the google adwords, instagram, youtube, those are the main four traffic channels i use. And instead of looking for how can i increase my ad budget, how can i get more traffic from there.
Making Change Happen
Just say, Let me spend thirty minutes unplugged and let me come up with a strategy to see how this business would look like from a 30 thousand feet view. And when you start asking yourself small little questions like this, what will happen is, you will automatically start thinking much longer term.
You will automatically start thinking strategically instead of tactfully, and to become a CEO and to become an effective CEO and someone that grows a team and then builds that team, you want to make sure that you are focused on strategy and not a strategic work and say 80% or 90% and then 10-20 percent tactical work. And so anyway, i wanted to share this life lesson with you.
